Holmfirth Film Festival’s screenings continue at The Civic on Sunday 25 October with The President’s Cake, the first feature from Iraqi director Hasan Hadi (2025, 105 minutes, 12A). In Saddam Hussein’s Iraq, a nine-year-old girl is picked by lottery to bake a cake for the president’s birthday. The film is warm and funny in places, beautifully shot, and most of the cast are non-professional actors. Doors open at 6.30pm and the film starts at 7pm. Tickets are £5, either online through The Civic’s event page or in cash on the door.
