The area surrounding Shepley consists primarily of agricultural land, but also boasts a number of stone quarries.
The greatest expansion of Shepley has taken place in recent decades, as former agricultural land surrounding the village has been converted into new housing developments to accommodate commuters.
Despite the expanding population, the village maintains its original compact centre, with most of its essential amenities located just off the main road near the end of Marsh Lane.
Shepley is around 5 miles south-east of Huddersfield town centre.
