An opportunity has arisen for a dedicated professional to join the team at Kirklees College as a SEND Visual Impairment Support specialist. This role is essential in ensuring that students with visual impairments receive the support they need to succeed during their time at college and as they progress towards positive destinations.

Based predominantly at the college’s Waterfront site and working across multiple locations, the postholder will provide tailored and high-quality support to students with visual impairments. This includes working alongside the SENDCO for Visual Impairment to implement appropriate support strategies, deliver interventions, and manage the Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) process, including annual reviews. The role focuses on building an inclusive and supportive environment that enables each student to prepare confidently for adulthood.

Key responsibilities:
• Deliver support that is tailored to the needs of students with visual impairments
• Collaborate with the SENDCO for VI to implement effective support plans
• Oversee the EHCP process, including annual reviews and relevant documentation
• Provide data-driven interventions that contribute to student progress
• Ensure all learners feel valued, respected and well-prepared for their next steps

Applicants should ideally hold a Level 2 qualification in literacy and numeracy (GCSE English and Maths at grade A*-C) and a Level 3 qualification in supporting students with visual impairments, or demonstrate equivalent ability. Experience working with young people with visual impairments and other additional needs in an educational setting is essential.

A thorough understanding of EHCPs, the SEND Code of Practice and inclusive education strategies is required. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are also vital, alongside the ability to use initiative in complex situations and maintain a values-led approach based on kindness, unity and excellence.
