Practice Nurse

Thornton Lodge Surgery is seeking a dedicated and friendly Practice Nurse to join their well-established team in Huddersfield. This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a forward-thinking surgery that is currently embracing new ways of working and developing smarter team structures to support patient needs and staff development.

The successful candidate will be a registered nurse (NMC) with experience in primary care. They will share responsibility across the nursing team and contribute to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care.

Key responsibilities include:
• Chronic disease management within a clinical setting
• Cervical cytology and breast awareness education
• Treatment of minor injuries and wound care
• Childhood and routine immunisations
• Menopause and HRT consultations
• Travel health advice and vaccinations
• Smoking cessation support
• Support for minor surgery and coil fittings
• Requesting pathology tests (e.g. swabs, urine culture)
• Health promotion and patient education
• LES/DES/QOF related clinical and administrative duties
• Accurate record keeping and participation in practice meetings
• Participation in chaperoning and patient support during examinations

The role also includes opportunities to be involved in new patient medicals, ECGs, spirometry, ear irrigation, and collaboration with GPs under agreed clinical protocols. The surgery welcomes candidates with experience in managing long-term conditions such as diabetes, asthma, and coronary heart disease.

Candidate requirements:
• NMC registered nurse
• Experience in general treatment room duties
• Confident working independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
• Strong communication skills and ability to work under pressure
• Flexibility to cover absence where needed
• A full, clean driving licence
• Willingness to grow and adapt in a changing healthcare environment

Desirable:
• Experience in chronic disease management
• Practice nurse qualification
• Nurse prescribing qualification
• Family planning qualification
• Knowledge of SystemOne
• Current emergency resuscitation training
