Can you tell us a bit about your business?

Petal & Barley Developments was born from our shared passion for property. Initially starting with properties on the East Coast we both felt the pull of Huddersfield and began to invest in our home town. We now have a range of properties we manage for landlords as well as purchasing our own houses to refurbish and put back on the market as beautiful homes. We are currently marketing our newest property for sale in Lowerhouses, a grade 2 listed cottage which we have thoughtfully brought back to life while highlighting its traditional features such as exposed stone walls and beams.

How do you see Huddersfield?

Huddersfield certainly has potential and we are really happy to see all the investment happening in the area. We hope the Blue Print, the Rail Improvements and The Light will bring our town centre back to life as we once knew it. It is a town bursting with heart but over the years has seen decline as many town centres throughout the UK have so we are not alone. Huddersfield is a beautiful town from its striking architecture to the rolling hills surrounding it. Huddersfield has shaped who we are – and we’re proud to call it home.

What surprises you about Huddersfield?

Everything that we have going on, the community spirit, the organisations dedicated to the regeneration of our town centre such as Huddersfield Bid and Hello Huddersfield. The opportunities for Networking with like-minded businesses and the support this offers us constantly amazes us.

What change would you like to see in Huddersfield?

We’d love to see more events such as the stereophonics which brought people from far and wide to spend their money in our town supporting local business whether that be accommodation or spending in restaurants etc. These initiatives champion small businesses and the community in general giving a sense of pride and community spirit.

What keeps businesses in Huddersfield?

It’s the people – and the brilliant local property network. There’s a genuine sense of camaraderie, with hosts supporting hosts, sharing ideas and celebrating each other’s wins. That kind of community is priceless.

How has Huddersfield impacted your work?

It’s inspired us to invest here, from using local trades to refurb our properties to our extensive local knowledge. Huddersfield isn’t just our setting its our home.

What do you think Huddersfield’s future looks like?

Optimistic and imaginative. With continued investment and community spirit, Huddersfield could become a leading destination for tourism, creativity and innovation.

Any other comments you’d like to make?

We’re deeply grateful to be from here, building something for others to enjoy. Huddersfield runs through everything we do – it’s not just where we work, it’s who we are. We also proudly sponsor Sam Hulme, one of the incredible female giants in Huddersfield – a symbol of strength, creativity and local pride. Supporting her is our way of giving back to the culture that inspires us.

Guest quote: “One of the warmest, most welcoming stays we’ve ever had. Every detail felt local, thoughtful, and full of heart. Huddersfield never looked so lovely.”
